Culture of China, Festival of Spring

The Guang Xi, China, came to Brunei last week for performance: dancing, singing and magic. Of all the cultures in this world, I like Chinese the most. I'm not sure is it because I'm Chinese. Although I like the Japanese language, the country and the foods, but I'm not that interested in their culture.

I used to dance Chinese traditional during high school, I miss those moments.

They had modern song + dance too which has the Gangnam Style feel. That guy is so leng zai ^^

I always want to know how they do the "change face" performance, they are really fast and they can change more than 10 faces in a performance. The trick is always a secret and they will never teach people.

The magic show wasn't that nice as the girl only knows how to make more and MORE umbrellas =.="

I like the overall performances, really worth to watch.

2013 Chinese New Year 3: 初九,拜天公

The 9th day of Chinese New Year is the new year for Hokkien, which also when the Hokkiens 拜天公 (pronouns as "bai ti gong").

Many many years ago, at Jing Men in Taiwan, there was a war. The soldiers told themselves, whenever the war stop, that day would be their New Year. So the war stopped on the 9th day of Chinese New Year.

And sometimes you will see sugarcanes at the house or while the Hokkiens are praying the god, it's because the Hokkien soldiers were hiding behind the sugarcanes back then.

So the Hokkiens 拜天公 on the 8th day of Chinese New Year at 11pm. The picture above shows how we 拜天公, we face the sky or outside the house.

2013 Chinese New Year 1

3 more days to the end of Chinese New Year!

For my foreign readers: Although Brunei is a Muslim country but this country has Chinese too, so there is CNY public holiday for the Chinese to celebrate CNY. Chinese celebrate CNY for 15 days, that's mean if the first day of CNY falls on 1st February, then it ends on 15th February. CNY normally falls on January or February.

On the first few days of CNY, there are a lot of lion dance teams perform lion dance from houses to houses. Then the owner of the house will give "ang pao", a red packet with money inside, to the lion dance team.

My family

CJ is getting fatter.

I like taking pics when the wind is blowing lol somehow I think the pic looks nicer.

Lion Dance by Chung Ching.

My big family, a lot of members missing here.

S.Wei and Kheang is the sweetest couple I've known so far. When they went for vacation, they spent most of their time busy looking for couple/matching clothes, shoes, bags, wallets, phone case....I mean everything!
So they wear couple shirts most of the time.

Eldy and Kheang.

Day 2

Day 1 is normally for family.
Day 2 is when the wives visit their parents, which is 回娘家.

Lion sitting on the sofa, so relax.

The best team I've seen. It was by Hokkien Association, and the people are from Limbang. They are si beh pro and the lions look nice.
They no cincai play play and collect ang pao, they really put effort and they go every corner of the house.

and they made this!
